We searched for a good bright office light when our last one from Costco quit working. This light had the highest lumen rating of all LED surface mount lights we could find and at a reasonable cost. This one is smaller than our old oval shaped fixture but is brighter. Our other light never seemed quite bright enough without turning on our pole lamp. But this one lights up our home office room just right. I wouldn't want one any dimmer than this. We also notice that because of the rounded shape of the plastic diffuser, it really throws the light out to the sides better than our last light. Be aware of a couple of things. This light seems so light weight that you loose confidence in it until you turn it on. Then it is amazing. The other thing is that it is a much cooler, less yellow color than most warm white or tungsten bulbs. We like this because it is more like sunlight. But this is personal preference. Another thing is that the spacing on the mounting holes on the light housing was a good half inch wider than the mounting screws on our electrical box from 1990. So I had to use one of those and then run a sheet rock screw up into a stud just outside the box. Overall, I would rate this as an excellent product and a great value for the money. I love long lasting, energy efficient LED lighting. Couldn't be happier!Update: I ordered a second one for our laundry room. Wow! This light weighs a fraction of the old fixture with two U-shaped fluorescent bulbs in it and is way smaller. No more fluorescent hum and probably 4 times as much light! My wife loves it too :)Fixture came well packaged and instructions were clear. Components were well made, if a lot flimsier than expected. Looks fine once installed, but definitely a mid-range fixture. On the plus side, the light is bright and uniform, if not as warm white as I had thought when I selected that version. Only real complaint was how difficult it was to align the base plate with the mounting bolts. The plate sits flush to the ceiling, of course, and it's a big 12" square, so lining up even one of the bolts to the through hole took much longer than expected. I have put up a lot of fixtures in my day and this isn't an uncommon problem, but the size of the plate certainly made it a more frustrating experience than usual. That said, it looks well enough and the working parts seem well made, so I've ordered a second one for another bath.Disappointing. Once installed it does provide a very nice bright light. That's the only positive thing I can say about it. The metal is very thin and the trim frame that holds the diffuser in place arrived with several dimples and dents in it. The little bolts that hold the LED panel to the mounting were a mess. Most were loose and had to be tightened while others were missing their tiny nuts, and a couple were just plain missing.Over the years I've installed many light fixtures, ceiling fans, garage door openers and the like so I'm not a stranger to DIY projects. The installation of this light was a nightmare. To begin with the installation instructions appeared to be for a completely different light. One that has the standard keyhole and twist mounting method which this light does NOT use. Instead there are two short bolts/screws that attach to the mounting bracket with small nuts. Tighten them firmly or they will just spin when you try to put on the the weird ball nuts that attach the light to the bracket. Then comes the challenge of getting the diffuser and the bottom metal piece into place. Because the metal is so flimsy it takes two people because it flexes so much. Enough so that you could easily bend it. So have another pair of hands ready when you get to that part.I'd rate this light lower but as I mentioned at the beginning I'm pleased with the quality and amount of light it produces. The quality of the light fixture itself though does not reflect the price. We bought two of these, to light a work area. They were installed two weeks ago, and seem to be doing the job. They are very bright, and easily produce enough light in which to work on projects. They produce a very WHITE light, though, which takes some getting used to. The old lights, which used standard bulbs, produced more of a yellow light, so the difference was slightly disconcerting at first. After a week, though, we're used to the light produced by these LED lights. We installed dimmer switches with both lights, which I highly recommend, since these 18 inch lights are very bright. The only complaint I have is that when we first turn on these lights in the morning, they flicker for awhile, I guess until they warm up. I have smaller LED ceiling lights installed in other rooms of my house, and none of them do this. We usually turn them on in the morning, and within half an hour or so, the flickering stops. They remain on for 8-10 hours a day, produce nice bright light, & don't emit any heat, which makes a huge difference compared to the old bulbs. It's been a few weeks since we introduced a whole lot of new light into a windowless bedroom. It has changed the whole feel of the space. I love that part of it. I would caution you to take extra care when installing to remove any and all drywall from the area. We see where small bits (like crumbs) have fallen into the cover from above. It's a distraction from how beautiful it is. And, since it sits directly over the bed, it's not like I can avoid looking at it as it collects more and more of the detritus from above. Meh. Life is all about balance.I needed a large square light to replace an old and heavy fixture that had left marks on my ceiling. This was the perfect solution. It is lightweight, led with nice sleek clean design that looks like it was made for the space and gives off excellent bright light. I am very pleased with this purchase.
